Journey Highlights : The highlight for me was going to the encaustic art show and seeing so many of the techniques that we had just learned displayed in the artwork. It was so cool to see art as something achievable and not just for “artists”. We, as ordinary people, made art in the Artista studio.

Artista JOURNEY NAME: Artista En Cera Encaustic Workshop

Name: Kim

From: Cypress, California

Occupation: High School Art Teacher

More About You: Originally from Whidbey Island in Washington, I've lived in southern California for 23 years and currently reside in Fullerton. My husband Fred and I will celebrate our 19th anniversary this year! We have two beautiful daughters, Ally and Nina, two adorable Dachshunds, Joey and Skippy, and two cats, Loverboy and Smokey Joe.

Your inspiration: My school encouraged teachers to find workshops that would be helpful to their teaching. I found Artista through a web search.

Who did you travel with? I travelled on my own.

Would you recommend En Cera to others? I would recommend this experience to everyone. It was so freeing to my soul! I cried on the plane home because I didn’t want to lose the belief that I can create something meaningful and that I might still have something interesting to say that others might want to hear. I felt empowered.
